Pittsburgh Pirates defeat San Francisco Giants 9-2 – MLB Update
Pittsburgh Pirates put in an amazing performance as they beat the San Francisco Giants 9-2 at AT&T Park in San Francisco on Wednesday, August 10 to avoid a humiliating series sweep.
The wounded Pirates, who were shut-out 6-0 by the defending World Series Champion in the second game of the series, entered with a ballistic mood. Ryan Ludwick gathered an RBI single in the first to lead off the game and then Andrew McCutchen hammered a
two-run homer followed by an RBI single by Matt Diaz in the top of the third to take the game into 4-1.
Pirates’ batting scored another run in the fifth and then added three more in the seventh while they finalised their scoring stint in the last inning with a line drive single of Ronny Cedeno. McCutchen scored four runs over single at-bat and Ludwick added
two runs into his record. A pitch also hit McCutchen in the seventh inning.
Pirates’ pitcher Jeff Karstens held the Giants to just two runs over his six innings and struck-out nine batters, including Nate Schierholtz, Aubrey Huff and Pablo Sandoval, who launched his thirteenth homer of the season in the first inning. The stunning
sinker and swinging balls help Karstens to win his ninth game.
Pirates won their 56th game of the season and now will take on Milwaukee Brewers after Thursday to take revenge of all of the last five defeats. Brewers have snatched all the last five games this season. The Pirates are now confident to grab back
their power against the league rivals, but their manager still seems in doubt.
"We'll find out after the Friday night game, but we're going in with some confidence," Pirates’ manager Clint Hurdle said. "We were able to put a foot down and win a series on the road."
Giants’ Jonathan Sanchez lost his seventh game, allowing five runs on four hits and giving four walks over his only four innings spell. Guillermo Mota also gave away two runs on one hit of one inning and Jeff Affeldt and Ramon Ramirez each allowed one run.
It is really a bad time for the defending Champions as they have lost 10 of their last 13 games including 3-7 at home. With this performance at the end of the Regular season can cause the National League club a serious blow in the days to come.
