Pittsburgh Pirates’ duo all ready to blaze in the All-Star Game – MLB News
Excitement ran through Pittsburgh Pirates on Monday, July 9 as the team solidified its top position in the National League Central. The team currently inspires optimism and hope for the fans as it seems for the first time in almost two decades that the Pirates are set to triumph in the World Series.
The team’s closer, Joel Hanrahan, is one of the optimists keeping his fingers crossed for a big win this season.
"The city of Pittsburgh is rocking right now," Hanrahan said, "but we're not worried about just being .500. That's not going to get you in the playoffs. That isn't going to get you where you want to be. Our goal is to win the World Series. It's to win the division, get to the playoffs and make a run."
While all eyes are set for the post-All-Star Game, whereby the second half of the season gets underway, the All-Star Game itself has its increasingly eager fans on a roll. The Pirates are all the more cheerful because the team’s centre-fielder Andrew McCutchen and closer Joel Hanrahan are representing them in the National League team to face the American League.
"That says a lot," McCutchen said. "It's not just a player representing a team just because they need to have a player represent the team. It's because they earned their way here. That's why they're here. It says a lot for our team, for our organization."
The Pirates had long seen the talented McCutchen innately possessed. Thus they acted and signed a $ 55.1 million contract with the centre-fielder before the start of this season.
From the very look of it was one of the sagacious and rewarding decisions made by the Pittsburgh Pirates. Since then, the team has not looked back, making their ascension as the season progresses.
The two players, representing the Pittsburgh Pirates in the All-Star Game will have enormous media attention. As the duo has assisted the team through the thick and thin this season, it will be an ideal opportunity for them to demonstrate their brilliance in this much awaited game.
