Pittsburgh Pirates edge Houston Astros 6-2 – MLB Recap
The Pittsburgh Pirates beat the Houston Astros 6-2 in the second game of their three-match regular series encounter on Tuesday, September 4 at PNC Park in Pittsburgh.
Pirates' hitters and pitchers played well and earned a great victory for their team.
"It's just all about getting that feeling back, It felt pretty good tonight. That will take care of itself, I just need to do what I do here," McCutchen said on his team’s performance.
Wandy Rodriguez pitched seven innings and received four hits. He was exceptional on the mound and did not allow any run on his consistent 3.71 ERA. He retired seven and kept the Astros under pressure during his spell.
Relief pitcher Chris Resop also did well on the mound as he pitched 0.2 innings and received two hits and two runs on his 3.74 ERA.
Closer Tony Watson also played well and maintained his ERA at 3.71. He received only one hit and pitched 0.1 inning spell.
On the other hand, the Astros' pitchers did not play well and lost in the end. They did not play according to the plan and lost bitterly in the end.
"That's a fly ball I should have, I just think we had just maybe a, you know, guys in different spots, maybe some miscommunication, but that's my responsibility being the shortstop out there, take control of what's going on," Greene said on his performance.
Starting pitcher Jordan Lyles allowed five runs and seven hits on his 4.2 innings spell. He struck-out five while he maintained his ERA at 5.55.
"The whole night, the curveball wasn't there for me. I think it comes down to delivery. I've got to work on being better out of the stretch, and tonight it wasn't there,” Lyles said as he explained about his team’s performance.
Relief pitcher Fernando Rodriguez pitched 0.1 innings and allowed only one run on his 5.72 ERA. He struck-out one while his pitching did not provide anything good to his team.
With this win, the Pirates now levelled the series 1-1 while the next game will be a decisive in their three-match series.
