Pittsburgh Pirates edge New York Mets 5-4 – MLB Update

The Pittsburgh Pirates edge past the New York Mets 5-4 in the first game of their three-match regular series encounter on Monday, May 21 at PNC Park, Pittsburgh in 2012 Major League Baseball season.
The Mets’ starter Johan Santana proved the real difference in their loss. He was hammered by the Pirates’ batters for four runs and eight hits which eventually paved the ground for the Pirates to take the game away.
"You're out there and there's a lot of noise, Mike is calling for it, Kirk is calling for it and they can't hear each other, But once the center fielder calls it, it's his ball. Somehow Mike has to know the center fielder is coming. We've just got to catch the ball there." New York manager Terry Collins said.
He added, "The pitch to McKenry is a ball I'm sure he'd like to get back, It was a pitch up. But the big difference is we didn't add on. When they scored two runs (in the fourth), we had several opportunities to get them back and we didn't."
This win has also given the Pirates confidence to face the in-form the Mets as well as strengthened their chances to take away the series.
The Pirates starter Erik Bedard also could not perform as he gave four crucial runs in his five innings. Though, both teams’ starters were not up there with of their abilities and gave much loop holes to their opposing batting line-ups. However, despite Bedard played poorly, but the Pirates batters’ remained subtle and took away the game in last inning.
In the meanwhile, this is a healthy sign for the Pirates as its entire roster played as one unit and never allowed the Mets to score in the last stages of the game. Currently they are sitting quite comfortable at third position in the National League Central Division with the winning percentage of .476 and 20-22 win loss record.
On the other hand, the Mets are behind at fourth position behind the Miami Marlins with .524 win percentage and their win loss 22-20 record is also relatively good so far.
