Pittsburgh Pirates hammer Houston Astros 6-3 – MLB Recap
Pittsburgh Pirates hammered the Houston Astros 6-3 in the last game of their three-match regular series encounter on Wednesday, September 5 at PNC Park in Pittsburgh.
"At this time of year, it's all about winning, You need everybody doing everything they can do to help the team win," Alex Presley said.
Pirates played beautifully and earned a great victory for their team. They played as one unit and rattled the Astros with a big margin.
Pirates’ pitchers were exceptional on the mound and hammered the Astros with ease.
Starter Kevin Correia pitched six innings and received four hits and only one run. He retired one batter and stayed consistent at 4.28 ERA.
"It's just a number but you do want to win as many games as possible because that's your job as a pitcher, The biggest thing you want to do, though, is give your team a chance to win," Correia said.
Later Pirates' manager Clint Hurdle said, "He gave us a very professional effort, He moved the ball in and out and kept them off balance. It was a good job."
Relief pitcher Jared Hughes also did well on the mound as he pitched two innings and received two hits. He struck-out two while his ERA remained consistent at 2.65.
Closing pitcher Jason Grilli pitched one inning and received two hits and two runs on his consistent 2.47 ERA. He also struck-out two Astros’ batters and proved one of the winning factors for the Pirates.
On the other hand, the Astros' starter Fernando Abad did not play well and lost the game for his team. He pitched four innings and allowed five runs and six hits on his 5.30 ERA. He struck-out three but still could not stop the Pirates batters who scored quick runs and won the game with ease.
His team-mate and relief pitcher Mickey Storey also played poorly and could not save the game for the Astros.
He pitched 1.1 innings and received two hits and one run. He was unable to strike-out any batter as his ERA rose to 3.15.
