Pittsburgh Pirates humiliated by Milwaukee Brewers 3-9 – MLB Update
Pittsburgh Pirates were humiliated by the Milwaukee Brewers 3-9 at Miller Park in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on Friday, August 31 in the opening game of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Pirates’ starting pitcher Jeff Karstens looked completely out of sorts as he gave up four runs on five hits in his first inning. Clint Hurdle sent him to the bullpen straight away but the move did not have any effect on the result of the game. After taking
an early lead, Brewers continued to put pressure on their opponents to take complete control of the situation.
Kevin Correia did his best to keep the Pirates in the game, tossing four scoreless innings but his effort also went in vain. Garrett Jones homered to right in the fourth inning and Alex Presley connected for solo home-run in the seventh.
"I feel great about the season," said Brewers’ Mark Rogers after securing his third win of the season. "I feel like I've come a long way this year. I've battled my way back from injuries before so it's pretty gratifying to be here right now and be a part
of this ballclub."
"It's been a whirlwind, getting back from the surgery and everything else that was going on," Rogers said in a post game interview. "It was nice to get my feet wet early on in the season at Triple-A and get back into pitching shape and build from there."
After having a successful series against the reigning World Series Champion, Manager Clint Hurdle was expecting his team to put up a powerful show in series opener against Milwaukee but the Brewers had other ideas.
Dominating their opponents in almost all aspects of the game, the Brewers cruised to a comprehensive win on Friday to take a 1-0 series lead.
Pirates are still very much in the playoff race. If they can bring some more consistency in their results in this finale quarter of the season, surely they will have a chance to grab the National League Wild Card spot. It will be interesting to see if Hurdle
and company can turn things around in Game 2 to keep the series alive.
