Pittsburgh Pirates lose to New York Mets 1-3 – MLB Recap
The Pittsburgh Pirates lost to New York Mets 1-3 in the third and final game of their three-match regular series encounter on Wednesday, May 23 at PNC Park, Pittsburgh in 2012 Major League Baseball season.
Losing the very first game of the series 5-4, the New York Mets have bounced back in style with back-to-back wins. With this particular victory, the Mets have also bagged the series 2-1.
Wednesday’s game was yet another awesome display of Mets’ pitching rotation. Especially starter Jonathon Niese rose to the occasion and gave his team a superb win in a very important series decider game.
In his 7.2 innings, Niese went with only one run and five hits. Striking out five Pirates batters, Niese remained confident on the mound and kept the Pirates under pressure as they could not score and hit much.
"He was upset, It was human nature, but the thing is, he fought back and gave us a great game today. That's what you've got to do. You've got to bounce back. When you pitch, you can scratch out some wins but when not pitching and hitting at the same, that's a bad combination, David got another big hit today. As long as he's hitting we're going to score runs but we've got to get other guys in our lineup going." Mets manager Terry Collins said for Niese who earlier has mentioned in the media that his player will perform with big numbers.
Later Pittsburgh manager Clint Hurdle also appreciated Niese’s contribution for his team, "He was very effective, kept the ball down, bought some territory inside from time to time with the cutter.”
The Mets from start of the game kept the Pirates under pressure and allowed them to score only one run which was not enough for them to stop their opponents from a series decider win.
The Pirates starter Charlie Morton on the other hand, could not show his top game as he hammered by the Mets with three crucial runs in his seven innings which proved the significant and losing factor for his team.
