Pittsburgh Pirates lose to New York Mets 5-6 – MLB Update
Pittsburgh Pirates took another humiliating series loss as they fell to the New York Mets 5-6 at Citi Field in New York on Thursday, September 27 in the finale of their four match series.
Pirates’ Manager will be extremely disappointed with the outcome of the series. After the Pirates crushed New York 10-6 in Game 2, they had an excellent chance to earn a rare series win at Citi Field but that did not turn out to be the case.
Mets turned things around brilliantly in Game 3, securing a comfortable 6-0 win and they continued their good work in the finale to complete a deserving series victory.
Pirates’ starting pitcher Kevin Correia had another poor outing as he gave up seven hits and six runs in just over four innings to take his 11th loss of the season. Correia has given several match winning performances since the start of the season
but inconsistency had halted his progress big time.
Relief pitchers Hisanori Takahashi, Chris Resop and Tony Watson combined to pitch three plus solid innings but the Pirates were unable to cross the finish line on Thursday.
"And then I'd come out for an at-bat and I would hear this kind of growing surge, and it really was neat. I mean I don't know if I've ever experienced something like that before. Maybe I never will again. Although I wasn't distracted from the moment, how
could you not be motivated to go out there and give the fans and, well, your teammates and yourself all that you have?" he said.
Mets’ starter R.A. Dickey pitched seven plus effective innings, allowing just three innings while striking-out 13 batters. The knuckle-ball specialist created all sorts of problems for Pittsburgh’s batting line-up.
Catcher Rod Barajas provided Pirates with an excellent start as he hit a ground rule double to deep right in the second inning to put his side on the board. He later hit a two run home-run to extend Pirates’ lead to 3-1. Mets staged an emphatic come back,
scoring four runs in the fifth to take complete control of the situation.
