Pittsburgh Pirates outshine Cincinnati Reds 2-1 – MLB Recap
The Pittsburgh Pirates outshined the Cincinnati Reds 2-1 in the third and final game of their three-match regular series encounter on Wednesday, May 30 at PNC Park in 2012 Major League Baseball season.
The Reds had a good chance to clinch the series in the final game as they previously won the very first game, however the Pirates pushed their opponents with more power and took the game as well series.
Pittsburgh’s starter A.J. Burnett was exceptional on the mound as he retired three very important batters of Reds and never allowed any other hitter to play him easy. He finished his seven innings spell giving just one run and two hits.
"I've been around a long time, I'm no All-Star, I'm no Cy Young but I've been through the battles. I know what it's like to win. I know what it's like to lose ... I'll do anything I can to help, that's why I'm here." Burnett said regarding his performance
which proved the winning factor for the Pirates as well.
"When I go head-to-head with somebody like Burnett, a quality pitcher like him (I enjoy it)," Johnny Cueto said for Burnett. "He throws zeros, I want to throw zeros, and I want to see who wins. It was just one bad pitch and things happened,"
From start to end, the Pirates dominated the game and never allowed the Reds to take control of the game.
Though earlier in the game, the Reds scored quickly in the very first inning but later in the sixth, the Pirates took control of the game and won the game in style.
With this win, the Pirates have closed the gap with Reds at top spot, but still they have to work hard to come up at top. At the moment, they are sitting comfortable with 28-22 win loss record along with .560 and the Pirates are behind at third position
in the National League Central Division. They have a decent winning percentage of .500, but if they really want to surpass the leaders in NL, they must win at-least two series’ consecutively.
