Pittsburgh Pirates prevail 3-2 in thrilling encounter against Kansas City Royals – MLB Update
Pittsburgh Pirates prevailed in a thrilling contest against Kansas City Royals 3-2 at PNC Park in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on Sunday, June 10 in the finale of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season,
The running season has proved to be a very decent one for the Pirates, who have not lived up to their fans’ expectations over the last decade.
The Pirates went over the .500 win percentage mark for the first in twelve years last season and it seems they have gained valuable confidence from their performances past year.
Manager Clint Hurdle has done a terrific job with the players this season, giving them self belief. With their win against the Royals on Sunday evening, Pittsburgh has now improved their record to 32-27, tying with Cincinnati Reds for first place on National
League Central Division standings. It will be exciting to see the Pirate taking on Baltimore Orioles in their next series.
Royals, on the other hand, have no one to blame except for themselves. With just four wins in their last ten games, they have fallen nine games behind American League Central Division leaders Chicago White Sox.
"The fact that McCutchen was the one who hurt us, that's the fact I'm very concerned about," Kansas City catcher Brayan Pena said.
"This weekend was outstanding," A.J. Burnett said after winning his fifth straight decision. "We are playing good ball now and we are hitting on a couple of cylinders and it's fun to watch."
"He had good tempo and good rhythm today on a hot day, and he was really efficient with things," Pittsburgh manager Clint Hurdle said. "It was a very, very solid performance all across the board for A.J. today."
Andrew McCutchen was the star of the show for the Pirates. He doubled to deep right centre in the first to put his side 1-0 ahead.
Showing great composure on the mound, he homered to left in the third inning to widen Pirates’ lead to 3-0. Eric Hosmer and Alcides Escobar drove in crucial runs for the Royals but their efforts went in vain as Pittsburgh held on their slim lead to complete
their series’ triumph.
