Pittsburgh Pirates prove no match for New York Mets; lose 2-3 – MLB Recap
The Pittsburgh Pirates proved no match for the New York Mets on Tuesday, May 22 when they lost 2-3 in the second game of their three-match regular series encounter at PNC Park, Pittsburgh in 2012 Major League Baseball season and levelled the series 1-1.
The first game was won by the Pirates in a close encounter on Monday, May 21 at the same venue where they now face all together a different opposition which previously looked dire on their offence.
The Mets in this game entered with enhanced confidence and never allowed their opponents to play them easy.
Especially the Mets starter R.A. Dickey was exceptional against the Pirates batting lineup. He stood tall against the Mets big hitters and remained confident on the mound for seven innings.
Receiving only five hits and one run along with one earned run, Dickey played a wonderful role in the Mets win.
"It was consistently good throughout the game, which was nice, A lot of times it will leave and come back, but tonight I felt like I had a really good one and I had a couple different kinds of knuckleballs tonight, which is really, really fun. " Dickey said
on his superb outing.
Later Pittsburgh manager Clint Hurdle said for Dickey’s performance, “I was more impressed by the fact that in the seven innings he pitched, two balls hit the dirt, His numbers coming in were real. It was real last year. He competes and he made pitches."
Overall both teams’ pitchers especially starters played well for their respective teams. The Pirates starter James McDonald went with four hits along with one run only and great appreciation from his team however, the rest of the Pirates pitchers were too
waivered and gave five important runs which proved ultimate for the Mets to take away the game in style.
With this win, the Mets are now in great position to take away the series as well. This win also gave them a chance to see their team surpassing the win percentage of .500 as currently they are sitting comfortable with overall 23-20 win loss record.
