Pittsburgh Pirates sign new deal with Jose Tabata – MLB News
The Pittsburgh Pirates on Sunday formally announced the six-year contract with Jose Tabata. Having three club options, the six-year deal is one of the great moments for the Jose Tabata in his career as the 23-year-old is confidently bracing himself for achieving
a loftier position for himself in the game.
"Wow, it's awesome," Tabata said during a morning news conference. "I feel, right now, that I'm very important for the Pittsburgh Pirates. I like Pittsburgh. I like the city. I like the people. I want to stay here for a long time."
Even though the deal is considered to be prohibitively expensive one, the team does not regret that. With an exorbitant signing bonus of $1-million-dollars that he will get, Tabata – as the deal goes, will get half a million dollars this year.
It does not stop there, as with the passage of every year, there will be increase in his income as by the next year he will get $750,000 going for one million dollars in the year 2013, over three million dollars in 2014 and by 2016, it will be 4.5 million
dollars.
Having been made part of the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2008, Jose Tabata has been consistent in his performance ever since his first appearance for the team in 2010. He has – so far, featured in 177 games for the Pittsburgh Pirates.
There were obviously talks about the deal that has been made with the outfielder. But, importantly, he was once a predominant prospect for the New York Yankees, but the Pittsburgh Pirates hastened to trade the player till he formally became the part of the
Major League Baseball in 2010.
The Pirates’ General Manager understands the importance of the outfielder for the team no matter what the financial cost his presence in the team will have. Neal Huntington expects to retain the outfielder till 2019, showing ambition and confidence in the
talent of the player.
"We know what Jose is going to cost the Pittsburgh Pirates as we move forward," general manager Neal Huntington said. "Jose becomes one of those players that we build around as we move forward. We're not always going to be able to come to agreements. But
in this case, we're certainly excited to have Jose here, hopefully through 2019.”
Having played 76 games this season, Tabata has scored 46 runs with 281 at-bats, having had 4 home-runs with 17 RBIs, making the average .278 and .743 OPS. He is indeed an important part of the Pittsburgh Pirates and as time proceeds, his contribution for
the Pirates will be huge. Only time will tell if the new contract will pay-off for the Pirates, as they have decided to invest in Tabata for a few years.
