Pittsburgh Pirates starting pitcher A.J. Burnett out for 2-3 months – MLB News
The Pittsburgh Pirates’ starting pitcher veteran A. J. Burnett has undergone a surgery to repair a wrecked orbital fillet below his right eye that will force him to stay from the baseball field approximately for two to three months.
His below eye surgery had several complications at first, but according to Pirates’ management, the procedure went well and their player will be healthy soon potentially before start the next season.
Pirates’ general manager Neal Huntington said, “Everything went well with the surgery in terms of what we expected, what we saw, what we found. We're looking forward to getting him going, getting the swelling out of there. He's got a pretty good shiner right now, but he's in good spirits and ready to go.”
He added, “They'll take as long as they take. He wants to get back out there. He's hungry, he's angry, he's disappointed, he's frustrated and he's ready to go." The thing that most concerned us was the fracture. That's been repaired. There's a time frame for him just to recover from the surgery.
Currently the Pittsburgh’s entire roster is busy practicing in Arizona in 2012 Major League Baseball Spring Training while this blow of having one talented player out for two to three months is certainly a bad sign for the club especially in the short run.
Last season, the Pirates were very close to achieve Division title, but late in the end, they lost too many games from many average teams and could not achieve desired results. Now before even going into the new season, they have received another blow as their one of the most talented and most feared pitchers in the league Burnett has to stay away from the game for a while.
Burnett, who is 13-year experienced, certainly is good player having career average of 4.10 ERA along with 121-111 win loss record, 1791 strikeouts and 1.33WHIP. Last year playing with the New York Yankees with 5.15 ERA along with 11-11 win loss record, 173 strikeouts and 1.43 WHIP. His good health is the main priority for the Pirates at the moment and if he gets back on time, the Pirates will be playing with full flair.
