Pittsburgh Pirates take on Cincinnati Reds in three-game series – MLB News
The Pittsburgh Pirates will take on Cincinnati Reds on Monday, September 10, in the three-game series. The Pirates are struggling tremendously, witnessing a slump which was probably not anticipated with the latest being the three-game sweep by the Chicago Cubs.
The last time the Pirates encountered the Reds, it was only in the finale of three-game series that Pittsburgh could manage a win. In the first two games, the Reds overwhelmed them with ease. Pirates' manager, Clint Hurdle, has been looking forward to the coming series, something he alluded the last time two teams took each other on.
"We'll keep things in mind, sometimes accidents happen, coincidences happen that make you go, 'Huh?'" Pirates' manager Clint Hurdle had said previously. "We'll prepare for the next time we see them. But that's down the road."
Preparation is undeniably the key. However, the fact cannot be denied that the Pirates are coming in this series with a humiliating series sweep that they had to suffer as the Chicago Cubs prevailed.
Nonetheless, Pirates' manager had previously stated that the club knew how best to deal with the Reds when they competed the next time.
"We're well aware of what we need to do the next time we face those guys, but we try to keep everything in balance," Hurdle said.
Monday’s opener will give a hint of what lies ahead for the Pirates. On the other hand, the two teams will have the last of three-game series this year starting from September 28 to 30. For now, the focus is on the one commencing on Monday.
The Reds' players are also genuinely looking forward to this competition. Todd Frazier, the third baseman, shared his anticipation about the game.
"Six more games is going to be a lot of fun," Frazier said. "It feels like a playoff atmosphere to me."
Reds are comfortably occupying the top slot in the Division. Challenges, however, are abound for the teams exerting to be in the Wild Card race. Among those teams are, of course, the Pirates whose recent slump has to be compensated with victories if they want to stay afloat.
