Pittsburgh Pirates to send their top draft picks to Charleston
The Top two 2010 draft picks made by the Pirates are expected to start their training in Charleston.
The Pittsburgh Pirates have been running a low cost squad for a while now and one of the best things to come out of the side has been their revelling struggle to put their top prospects through youth programs that will provide
the club with its future stars. The concept of having an enriched farm system brings forth the potential to blast through the competition.
The possibility of such a plan was discussed by the team’s president, Frank Coonelly, who was part of the Pirates Winter Caravan stop in Charleston. The two prospects will most likely be sent to the Class A side, West Virginia
Power. Although Frank did not give a positive comment on the prospects’ inclusion in this year’s spring training, he did put the emphasis behind the two players heading out to Power.
The two players, Jameson Taillon and Stetson Allie are creating the best flux of energy in the days leading up to the regular season. The duo has led many fans to the PirateFest event this year and with excitement grooming over
the National Football League’s Super Bowl event, there is heightened support for the sports teams as the Pittsburgh Steelers try to make it through in the NFL championship.
Outfielder Garrent Jones is another player who has been rising through the ranks of the minor leagues. He was also present at Charleston. He was able to comment on the players and the team.
"We got a lot of talent, we got a lot of good players and guys that came up last year and did very well," Jones said.
Clint Hurdle, who is the new manager for the Pirates this year, was also in Charleston. He was able to give his insight on the players rising through the minor leagues.
"When you shake that tree down on the farm system, there's good young players from top to bottom," Hurdle said.
The amateur pitchers are nowhere near contributing at the Major League level, but Coonelly said those two additions make the Pirates' farm system healthier.
