Pittsburgh Pirates to start Alex Presley in 2012 – MLB News
The Pittsburgh Pirates are likely to use Alex Presley as their starter in the 2012 season. Determined to rediscover their potential as the competition-oriented side, the Pirates are willing to throw down the gauntlets now, experimenting and improvising something
infallibly effective.
That can only come in by addressing the immediate concerns like first base and pitching staff. As the left-fielder, Alex Presley is hoped to be instrumental, while Andrew McCutchen and Jose Tabata may help fill the outfield.
Presley, however, will be an intriguing case to ponder over. He was sent back to Minor League in 2011 when his season did not have as encouraging and impressive start as it was imagined.
But that has proven to be a blessing in disguise. The left-fielder has seen good enough improvements in Minor League after the demotion. This is one of the reasons why he comes up as someone who is developing.
The team’s general manager Neal Huntington believes that Presley has shown the ability to go ahead and do what is bargained for from him, emphasising the fact that he will be a contributory and helpful factor in reshaping the team’s outlook in 2012 season.
"It was all going to depend on how I was going to react to it, and I knew that," Presley said during the team's final series of the season. "I knew if I went down and was angry and negative that I wouldn't be back here. I just tried to put a positive spin
on it and get better and let things happen."
Huntington believes that Presley will be able to create runs, and whenever needed will also save the runs for the team, an expectation which seems to have a solid ground laid in the player’s talent.
"He can create runs in a number of different dimensions. He can prevent runs on defense in the corner,” Huntington said.
With the season around the corner and the fact that the Pittsburgh Pirates were unable to perform the way that was expected, Presley will indeed be a force to reckon with for many teams when he descends on the ballpark.
