Pittsburgh Steelers, Tennessee Titans lead prospects for draft LB Dont’a Hightower signing-NFL News
A number of teams have been linked to the interest for recruitment of the prospective professional linebacker, Dont’a Hightower, but the Pittsburgh Steelers and Tennessee Titans are the two teams said to be leading the race.
Managers and coaching officials from both teams have respectively assessed the player and said to be keen on exploring an opportunity for his signing off the 2012 National Football League (NFL) draft, which is going to be held from April 26 to 28, 2012.
The player’s agent, Pat Dye Jr., said that his client is expected to be chosen by a team from middle to later round of the draft.
Steelers qualify for the 24th overall pick, while Titans are eligible for the 20th prize. Both teams are positive about their chances of taking the player on board.
Hightower had been assigned the starting role by the Crimson Tide during his college career, and his record includes 85 tackles and four sacks. He was named in four respective awards last year.
However, some of the commentators have recently underrated the player due to his decreasing pace because of a knee injury, which has affected his run but still, he remains star of the defensive show-off in the draft.
Meanwhile, according to a couple of reports, the Baltimore Ravens are also weighing options to explore signing of the linebacker.
Ravens have lost Lee Evans and Ed. Reed to other teams during the offseason and are aiming to seek replacements at their positions.
The defence has a predominant role in the team’s scheme and they are not interested to lose the historical advantage, in spite of the recent diversion of their focus on the offensive line as well.
Amid the reports and speculations around the interest from several teams, Dye Jr. is hopeful that his client has good chances of winning an attractive deal from any of the mentioned teams.
He played down the suggestions if the injury was going to affect the player’s prospects of finding a right fit in the league, insisting that he remains to be equally impressive and top-notch linebacker.
