Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger not hundred per cent on recovery from ankle injury – NFL News
Nearly two weeks since their last game, which they had played vs the Denver Broncos in the wild card round of the playoff phase, Pittsburgh Steelers' star quarterback (QB), Ben Roethlisberger is yet not hundred percent recovered from his injured ankle.
He had injured his left ankle in Steelers' 13th game into the 14th week of the 2011 National Football League (NFL) regular season against the Cleveland Browns.
Having played a couple of games in the later part of the regular season before the wild card tie despite being in pain, Roethlisberger – the Big Ben – said on Wednesday, January 25, 2012, that he still had some swelling left on his ankle.
The player's participation in the games that had been played by the Steelers, following his injury had become an issue, bringing about some criticism for the team's coach, Mike Tomlin.
Tomlin had come under fire from a number of quarters for his allegedly weighing options of excluding the QB in Steelers' 14th game against the San Francisco 49ers.
He played the game in spite of the injury, and later Tomlin defended himself by clarifying he never wanted to keep the player out of the squad.
Ben also came to the coach’s rescue, saying it was not the coach's fault to weigh the options of his exit from the team line-up for the 49ers' game.
In spite of his participation, Roethlisberger could not contribute much to his team’s performance, and at the end they lost the game to their opposition.
The game became a turning point in their NFL regular season run when they lost a clear chance of taking a lead over their American Football Conference (AFC) North division rivals, the Baltimore Ravens.
Roethlisberger was added to the Steelers squad for their 15th and 16th games of the season against the St. Louis Rams and Cleveland Broncos, respectively.
Again, he was not hundred percent fit and the lingering injury continued posing a challenge for him in his plays.
He also played his team’s wild card tie, which they lost to the Broncos with a clear score difference of 10 to 45 points.
The QB had given a better performance on the field despite the fact that his ankle remained sore.
At the end, he was not successful in preventing his team from the loss and their exit from the playoff round of the league.
Irrespective of the fact that he had no more games to play after his team's exit from the league’s run, he is still nursing his injury.
As of the latest, the player is reported to have swelling on his feet and that the complete healing of his ankle could take quite some time.
