Pittsburgh Steelers QB Big Ben in ankle injury scare but insists nothing serious – NFL News
A couple of days after Pittsburgh Steelers’ star quarterback Ben Roethlisberger disclosed that he has been carrying a minor rotator tear from the past season but insisted it is only a soreness, another adversity has struck him - and this time it is an ankle
injury that has forced him out of the training for a few days at least.
Still, both, the quarterback and Steelers coach Mike Tomlin, insist it is only a bruise and not a sprained ankle and that the player is fine and ready to return to action any time. Since the Steelers do not practise on Mondays, he waited to join the teammates
next day (Tuesday).
Ben said "It's good, no worries," and his remarks were complemented by a similar update on the injury by coach Tomlin. He said:
"He should be fine. We'll take a look at it, he'll be a day-to-day thing, see how he goes from there."
In the wake of these hopeful statements, the player is expected to be available with the start of the camp after a day’s break. Still, his injury is no way a good development for the Steelers given they already have about half a dozen players on the physically
unable to perform (PUP) list.
The players on the PUP are the daring linebacker James Harrison, running back Rashard Mendenhall, nose tackle Casey Hampton, linebacker Jason Worilds and offensive tackle Max Starks.
The coach said of their injuries status:
"The vast majority of the PUP guys are week to week. So we'll evaluate their position when we get back from Philly."
As for Ben, he has been suffering from some sort of injury scare since middle of the 2011 National Football League (NFL) season. He had a sprained ankle in the latter phase of the season that forced him on the sidelines in the game against St. Louis Rams
just before closure of the season.
His rotator tear, which earlier was mistakenly assumed to be a shoulder injury, is lingering since November last season. It occurred during the Steelers game versus the Baltimore Ravens. As the player grows older, he is becoming more prone to injuries even
though he admittedly has been using himself very selectively and wisely.
