Pittsburgh Steelers’ QB Big Ben on good terms with OC Todd Haley – NFL News
Pittsburgh Steelers’ quarterback Ben Roethlisberger has finally attempted to patch up his ties with new offensive coordinator Todd Haley, refuting reports that he was in bad terms with the first year coach.
This comes as first good news on the prospects of good relationship between Todd and Ben, which had met a sour taste at the very outset of the former's arrival in Pittsburgh. Big Ben has repeatedly and openly criticised the new coordinator
over transformation of the team’s offensive strategy.
In one of his remarks, Ben likened the coach’s training approach to learning a new language, and at end of first session he said the Steelers had learnt up to an equivalent of saying ‘Hello’. He also disliked Todd’s choice of teaching
everything from the scratch, and said he saw himself back in the rookie days, when he had to pick up everything from very beginning.
When asked about the present status of their working relationship, Ben said:
"Good. It's the same as the offense. Every day, we're learning. We've been able to tweak things and communicate with each other."
About Todd’s new offensive scheme, the said:
"It's different. Different doesn't mean good or bad. It's just different. We've worked hard in both the spring and here to really get a head start and really get going on this offense. Our relationship is good, and we're really coming
along with the offense. We've made progress every day."
Ben’s latest remarks more or less have sounded to be consolatory statement but if he is really on good terms with Haley, it should be a great development for Steelers.
Head coach Mike Tomlin, who has been reported amid controversy to be the main orchestrator of Haley’s arrival in Pittsburgh, will particularly be pleased over improvement in the ties between the two.
Mike has backed Haley’s new offensive scheme, which is said to be heading Steelers to the roots of their offence. Last couple of Steelers’ offensive coaches including Haley’s predecessor Bruce Arians had transformed the team's offence
to be passing-focused. This is the latest offensive trend in the league. Haley, however, is reversing it back to run-focused, much to the disliking of Ben but pleasure of head coach Tomlin and vice president Art Rooney II.
