Pittsburgh Steelers RB Isaac Redman likely to replace Rashard Mendenhall as starter – NFL News
Pittsburgh Steelers’ running back, Isaac Redman, is going to be a crucial part of the team’s scheme for the RB position in absence of the incumbent RB Rashard Mendenhall.
Isaac will definitely be landed the starting position and the player already said to be raring for the opportunity, fully prepared and ready.
He said:
"It's a different thing when you have to be that guy week in and week out. Your mind-set has to be totally different to take more hits."
Since Steelers new offensive coordinator, Todd Haley, switched the offence strategy from pass-happy to run-heavy, the RB position has assumed greater importance.
Unlucky for the team, Rashard is out with an injury. This, however, gives Isaac an unexpected chance to play into the starter’s role. He earlier has been playing as a backup for Mendenhall.
Haley has hoped that the deviation from the previous offensive arrangement works out for him, and this is the reason he wants to make sure to create a right balance at all offensive positions.
The first-year coach should also hope that the offence leader, quarterback, Ben Roethlisberger, adapts and adjusts to the new scheme, which the player believes is different to the previous coach, Bruce Arians’ strategy.
Big Ben has so far shown resentment over introduction of run-heavy offence by the new coach but both sides have publically hoped that the QB is able to ease into learning new offence.
Back to Isaac, the player will have the starting line experience for the first time. He has spent three years as a backup and his record consists of 726 rushing yards.
In spite of the lack of experience, Redman says he is ready to take over the leading role, and if he is able to click in form, it will serve Haley’s cause more than the team’s.
So far, it is not clear for how long Steelers are going to test Redman on the starting line, as on return of the incumbent or his failing can push him back on the no. 2 or any other backup position.
