Pittsburgh Steelers RB coach Kirby Wilson’s surprise visit adds to hopes of return from burns injury
The Pittsburgh Steelers are in fresh hopes of earlier return of their running backs’ coach, Kirby Wilson, after the official, who is recovering from burn injuries, paid a surprise visit to the team’s training facility on Wednesday, March 04, 2012.
Wilson received the injuries to more than 50 per cent of his body in a fire at his home in January this year and in spite of the fears expressed about his recovery, earlier, he has managed well to recover faster than the schedule.
Steelers were surprised and happy over his sudden appearance at the team’s practice facility and are now confident of his fully recovery and return sooner than their expectations.
Wilson’s visit comes a couple of days after head coach, Mike Tomlin, assured Wilson’s recovery and return to his fans and players.
Tomlin had confirmed that the assistant coach was out of the hospital and working out on his recovery at his home, adding that he was certain to come back next season.
He said:
"He is attacking the rehabilitation. He is an extremely tough guy. We are excited about getting him back at some point."
The head coach has again reiterated that Wilson will be able to perform the coaching duties after he reports back his joining, expected to be well before the start of regular season in September 2012.
He, too, was taken by surprise with sudden emergence of Wilson in the team’s facility.
Wilson was burnt in a house fire earlier this year, and initial reports showed him in the worst conditions with fewer expressed hopes of him surviving in the accident.
He was rushed to a local hospital where doctors put him in a medically induced coma and since then he has been fighting off the problem, first in the hospital and now at his home.
The initial reports regarding the official’s chances of recovery and rehabilitation were rather discouraging, but he is now said to be on the consistent and fast recovery spree and the management is very much hopeful for his earlier than anticipated return
to the side.
All the team’s players and fans are said to be happy over the positive and hopeful reports on his recovery. His visit has left them even more pleased about the outcome.
Since the incident happened after end of the 2011 NFL regular season and with Steelers losing out in the wild card game, the absence of the official has not affected the team much.
Now with hopes of his coming back before start of this season, it less likely that the Steelers will again be facing any difficulties in training and grooming of the running backs.
