Steelers dash Bengals’ playoffs hopes with Sunday win – NFL Recap
American Football Conference (AFC) north division leader Pittsburgh Steelers dashed the Cincinnati Bengals hopes of staying close behind the divisional leader in race to playoffs with a comprehensive 35-7 win over them on Sunday,
4th December.
The Steelers made a slow start but later went on a rampage to leave the Bengals with no chance for catching on them in rest of the game. Roethlisberger despite his thumb injury managed to complete 15 out of total 23 passes. He
rushed for 176 yards. He was instrumental in two scores to Wallace. His final nine yards pass to David Johnson, Steelers tight end, was his 2026th yard of his career.
The self destructive Bengals came out as a different side altogether dashing pre-match optimism expressed by opinion makers that they were the unit that could topple any side in the league. Their late comeback in a game had particularly
become their unique characteristic to back their unpredictable performance.
The Bengals defence luckily had started well. They held off Pittsburgh Steelers offense only to 12 yards in eight plays. They forced two punts with one first down allowed.
The Steelers with the win over the Bengals are now atop 9-3 with the Baltimore Ravens, who too beat the Cleveland Browns in another matchup, in the AFC north. The Bengals, who were chasing them7-4, are now further down 7-5, making
even more difficult for them to catch up on the two to make it to playoffs.
The lead gap between the Bengals and Steelers is expected to further increase this Thursday when the Steelers take on the Cleveland Browns. All odds are in favour of the Pittsburgh Steelers to win their game against the Browns
to be played this Thursday night.
The Steelers continue their best record in AFC north while the Browns have just come out of their sorrowful loss to Pittsburgh Steelers’ close rivals Baltimore Ravens.
The Baltimore Ravens beat the Browns 24-10 on past Sunday. The win may not as wider as the Pittsburgh’s against the Bengals but the Ravens were in a complete control of the game on the day. Even Browns’ themselves admitted that
it was an embarrassing loss for them.
Keeping in view this performance by the Browns the Steelers can see themselves passing the Ravens on points table, leaving even wider gap between them and the Bengals.
