Pittsburgh Steelers WR Mike Wallace deal talks way out of sight – NFL News
The negotiations process between Pittsburgh Steelers’ managers and agent of wide receiver, Mike Wallace, is far from start and there is no solid proof if the team will land him a long-term contract before the training camp, which Steelers
are due to open later this month.
Mike is on a restricted franchise tender of worth $2.7 million, which the player has repeatedly refused to sign and in protest of new contract has skipped the entire offseason training and workout activity.
There is a greater likelihood that he will miss the training camp if not given fresh deal until then no matter even if the sword of $30,000 fine for each day he skips the camp hangs over his head.
The WR could have been made to pay $60,000 in fine for missing the three-day mandatory minicamp by head coach, Mike Tomlin, who has the final say and authority on the penalty matter, but he has successfully avoided the possibility.
Whether the management will make him pay $30,000 for each day of the training camp he can possibly sit out on the fence is the question yet to be answered.
The possibility of deal talks in the meantime has hit snags, both sides firmly holding to their positions. There is no guarantee either it will start in the near future so that a solution to the contract matter can be speculated coming by
the training camp.
An apparent reason for the ongoing relaxed environment prevalent around the matter is that the player is very much conscious to his training and fitness needs. It is most likely he returns to the squad fully fit and in form. No worries
for the coaches as far as his fitness and training are concerned.
This leaves the entire situation to the question if the management will be able to convince the receiver to join the training camp without agreeing to fresh terms with him.
A similar question the player is looking for an answer to is: Whether the team will give him a payout raise, as demanded by him. It remains to be the major impediment to an amicable solution to the matter, and if Steelers show themselves
to be rigid on the pay issue, it will be difficult for the stakeholders to find a common ground between them.
