Pittsburgh Steelers WR Mike Wallace rues training camp miss, blames it for bad form – NFL News
Pittsburgh Steelers veteran wide receiver Mike Wallace admits he is not going through a good time of his career, receiving boos and taunts from fans and questions from his critics about his choice of holding out of the training camp to push his demand of
pay raise, but said he has no one else but him to blame for it.
The Steelers with the score of 7-6 in American Football Conference (AFC) North are tied with the Cincinnati Bengals for the second playoff wildcard opportunity from the AFC. Amid the situation, they need Wallace and other players to be at their best to make
sure they do not lose the chance.
The receiver, however, is struggling on his end to regain the prime form and all fingers are being pointed out at him being responsible for it because of missing training as a result of the holdout during the offseason.
Wallace says of the situation:
"Anything I do is going to be magnified, good, bad, it doesn't really matter. I've just got to do what I need to do and I don't give anybody a reason to say anything. Whatever happens I take full responsibility for it."
He added:
"I don't want nobody to ever say it's enough. I always want somebody to have a knock on me. Always, because it's always going to make me a better player and it's always going to give me something to strive for."
The holdout was not something new for the player, he has always spent offseason alone away from the team’s facility but he has always taken care of his fitness and then returns to training camp. This year he extended his stay outside because of the deal
issue and went on to skip the training camp.
Now he realises the setback of missing the training, although he is bold enough to accept the responsibility. His performance meanwhile is hurting the team on the field. It is a possibility now that he will not get a pay raise. Earlier, coach Mike Tomlin
had promised to talk Wallace deal if he turned to training, which he did not do. Now his deal has not been talked since then.
