Pittsburgh Steelers cautiously hopes RB Rashard Mendenhall’s return – NFL News
The Pittsburgh Steelers have set an ambitious hope for return of running back Rashard Mendenhall from a torn Achilles tendon, speculating that the injury is not of a serious nature, although on the surface, reality may not be the same as their expectations.
Rashard has almost spent the entire current year in the phase of recovery from the injury, which he suffered during last season’s playoff game versus the Denver Broncos in January this year.
He made an impressive comeback to play first game of the season, versus the Philadelphia Eagles, rushing for 101 yards, but his next game against the Tennessee Titans was a dismal show and then he suffered the same injury once again.
The player was helped on the sidelines and could not return to finish the game. The team later said he had further aggravated his injury and there were some serious doubts if he could stage a return to action any time sooner.
NFL.com has quoted an anonymous source disclosing that the player has avoided a serious injury and the team has decided to review his situation just before their game versus the Cincinnati Bengals to see if is able to comfortably play.
Some independent reports have discarded a possibility of Mendenhall’s return before two to three weeks. They said the healing process is rather longer given the injury has been aggravated, so player should take some time to feel hundred percent once again.
Overall, there are fewer chances of his participation in Bengals’ game but the situation must become clear before this weekend when the team reviews his situation.
It is rather unfortunate for the player and a serious blow to the Steelers. The team is already struggling to make an impression on the field and injuries on the defensive position do not bode well to their hopes of doing better in the rest of the season.
The team is not sure about availability of safety Troy Polamalu for the next game. He hurt his calf in the season opener. He played the game against the Philadelphia Eagles and re-injured himself.
