Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin projects return of LB James Harrison, safety Troy Polamalu
Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin has projected return of linebacker James Harrison, running back Rashard Mendenhall and safety Troy Polamalu in the home game against the Philadelphia Eagles this Sunday (Oct. 07).
All three players are recovering from respective injuries and yet to hit to the field this season, except for Troy who got injured in the season opener.
Mike’s optimistic statement about their return to action has come a day after all of them were classified uncertain by some commentators given there was a contradictory view on their recovery status within the team while the players also missed this Monday’s
practice.
Moreover, the players in recent remarks had hinted at the uncertainty they had been through with regard to their recovery process, so questioning their ability to stage a comeback this week was not a surprise.
Tomlin nevertheless expects all three in uniform this Sunday. He said: "I think that's a safe assessment."
He added:
"When we have those guys, we'll appreciate it. When we don't have them, we'll remain steadfast in our goals and our objectives."
James had a knee surgery on August 15 and has not played a game since then. He has trained with and without teammates on quite a few occasions but until Tuesday (Oct. 02) was doubtful. Now the coach hopes he will be taken back into the squad for their next
game.
Rashard has not played a game since tearing anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in wildcard game versus the Denver Broncos in January this year. He, too, is expected back with the side along with James this Sunday.
Although Polamalu’s injury is not that serious as of James’s or Mendenhall’s, he has missed the last couple of games after hurting his calf in the season opener. Now the team hopes he will be back at his position in the Eagles’ game on the weekend.
The return of the trio, if happens, will certainly boost the Steelers at defence. Both, Harrison and Polamalu are crucial members of the defensive crop of the team and have often led the team to victories.
