Pittsburgh Steelers concern over injury of Maurkice Pouncey, his chances for next game  – NFL News
The Pittsburgh Steelers have remained concerned about availability of centre Maurkice Pouncey for their wild-card game against the Denver Broncos on the Saturday, January 07, 2011.
Pouncey did not join the team squad for practice this week due to his ankle injury and has been added to the list doubtfuls for their weekend game. It included their quarterback (QB) Ben Roethlisberger and safety Ryan Clark for their respective injuries.
The player had sprained his left ankle last week and has not practiced since, and the team’s coaching staff believes he is most likely to miss the Broncos game.
He aggravated his injury later on as his injured ankle developed further soreness, limiting his movement and almost making impossible for him to play.
Bruce Arian, the team’s offensive co-ordinator said that he was concerned about the Pouncey injury status, and that he may not be able to the Saturday game.
A day to go to their one of crucial games the Steelers are not having good day on the injuries front. In addition to QB Ben Roethlisberger and safety Ryan Clark, the side remains concerned about some of other players.
They include the linebacker James Harrison with a toe injury, Troy Polamalu with a calf and Brett Keisel with a groin injury.
All the players have not taken part in the practice session on Wednesday and Thursday and are not confirmed to be hundred per cent for the Steelers playoff game.
It is expected that the side will be clearer on participation of these players on Friday and possibly could leave some of them for a game-time decision.
Roethlisberger is expected to top the list of players to be left for a game-call given his role at the QB position will be significant to their chances for a win.
His injury has already affected their performance in last three games of the regular season of the National Football League (NFL) 2011.
The QB struggled in the Steelers game against the San Francisco 49ers, which the Steelers lost and were pushed far away from availing an opportunity to claim the American Football Conference (AFC) north title.
He then went on to miss his next game, against the St. Louis Rams, and again played against the Cleveland Browns game to end the regular season.
The player in all those games he played with his ankle injury did not feel comfortable in his plays and remained very limited in his mobility and consequently in his throws.
In a majority of those games he was left for the game-time decisions and the Steelers hope he will be able to make it to their next game even if they have to wait for his chances until the warm-ups before the game.
