Pittsburgh Steelers doubtful about LB LaMarr Woodley versus Tennessee Titans – NFL News
The Pittsburgh Steelers are sceptical about return of linebacker LaMarr Woodley from a hamstring injury versus the Tennessee Titans this Thursday (Oct. 11), although the team has ruled out safety Troy Polamalu with an injured calf.
Polamalu hurt his calf in the season opener and sat out the next two games straight. He returned to action on past Sunday but could last only for a few plays before being ousted once again with the same injury.
Coach Mike Tomlin has confirmed the safety will be out again for this Thursday and did not elaborate if he will be able to return next week, while he said injured linebacker LaMarr might make himself available for the Titans’ game.
LaMarr suffered a hamstring injury in the last game which he left in the middle and could not return.
Now the coach said he is rather optimistic about his comeback. He said:
"Although there's more optimism regarding where he is. We're at the early portion of the season and we've got to be smart with how we deal with that."
Other two star performers of the side – linebacker James Harrison and running back Rashard Mendenhall – are fine and will be playing the next game without any problem. Last one was their first game of the season after recovery from a knee procedure and torn
anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), respectively. Both of them survived full game time last Sunday and came out without any notable setback, meaning they are fit and fine to continue playing in the side.
It was rather unfortunate that Polamalu ended up aggravating his injury. He had appeared to be hundred percent to qualify for playing on past Sunday.
The Steelers managed to edge past the visiting Philadelphia Eagles, but were hurt because of a pair of injury scares in form of Polamalu and Woodley. Although a costly one, it was a welcome win for the hosts. It helped them to improve their standing in the
American Football Conference (AFC) North division to 2-2. They are now just behind their rivals and division leader the Baltimore Ravens, who have lost just one game and are ahead with 4-1 record.
