Pittsburgh Steelers expect Mike Wallace return shortly – NFL News
The Pittsburgh Steelers are expecting wide receiver Mike Wallace hitting the team facilities shortly much to the excitement of the managers and players.
A section of media has cited unconfirmed sources saying that the player arrived in Pittsburgh late Monday and was due to formally join training camp next day. The latest disclosure has come a day after some reports claimed while quoting quarterback Ben Roethlisberger
that the receiver has decided to return.
Further, Mike has reportedly offered to sign the franchise tender, which he so far did not do in protest to his demand of a long-term deal from the Steelers.
The receiver’s return will certainly improve the offence situation of the Steelers despite the fact that they have done well without him so far. Coach Mike Tomlin and players admit that Wallace is important to overall offensive scheme of the team.
His arrival is likely to kick start the negotiation process for fresh deal for him as according to the coach the team is willing to work out a new contract for the WR if he shows up at training camp.
Wallace has been on the holdout since being tagged to the restricted free agent tender of worth $2.742 million. He has refused signing of it on the demand for a long-term deal of worth somewhere around $ 100 million.
A process to formal talks on the matter started during initial phase of training camp earlier this month but the team refused to take it from there and demanded Wallace to first show up at the camp. It now appears happening soon.
The coaches have peace of mind as far as training and remaining into shape is concerned because Wallace is known to be a player always conscious to his training and fitness needs. His return is expected to surprise those who have been working hard at training
camp and yet the receiver happens to be fit than them.
QB Ben is particularly excited about return of Wallace as both players have a long association on the offensive line of the team. They are also good friends. Roethlisberger is the only member of the Steelers who has remained confident about Wallace’s return
during the entire phase of the holdout and uncertainty.
