Pittsburgh Steelers guard David DeCastro suffers MCL, ACL, QB Big Ben blames turf – NFL News
Pittsburgh Steelers rookie guard David DeCastro has suffered serious injury blow, which his teammate, quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, has blamed is caused due to the turf at Ralph Stadium.
David was injured in the game against the Buffalo Bills which the Steelers won with convincing score of 38-7. Soon after the injury, David was taken on the sidelines and then to the locker room on a cart and coach Mike Tomlin feared at the outset that the
player had suffered a potentially severe blow.
Later, MRI scan results showed that the injury was a medial collateral ligament (MCL) and anterior cruciate ligament (ACL). Some reports earlier claimed it was only a MCL but later other media outlets cited independent sources claiming the player had suffered
both, MCL and ACL.
Even if the injury is just MCL or ACL, the season is almost over for the guard, which by all means is an unfortunate development at the start of his pro career.
Big Ben blamed the ground turf a reason behind the injury that the guard had suffered. Ben said of the situation:
"Well, I just saw him, (and his) spirits are high. We don't obviously know - well, I don't know what the official word is. This is a great field, but it's field turf and it's just killing guys because they can't get their feet out of the ground, and it's
just another reason we should get rid of field turf."
David’s injury has overshadowed the Steelers superb performance against the Bills. The game more or less proved to be one-sided as the Bills were seen struggling throughout. Ben looked in full form and impressive throughout, but later the injury news subdued
his mood, and he let out his frustration over the turf.
The Steelers in the meantime have not elaborated for how long they expect David to recover and return to action. It is too early to speculate a timeline for the comeback, and the team is most likely to place him on the physically unable to perform (PUP)
list, if they decide against releasing him altogether.
Coach Tomlin has refused to answer any of media queries on the matter of recovery and return of the player at present.
