Pittsburgh Steelers in must win situation for playoff berth, division title – NFL News
The Pittsburgh Steelers have to win their remaining two games to stay on the course for the American Football Conference (AFC) north division title and playoff berth this season.
The side who had gone ahead of their archrivals the Baltimore Ravens on the points table with the score of 10-3 last week left the chance for the division title slipped through their hands by losing to San Francisco 49ers on past
Monday night.
Now again they are tied with the Baltimore Ravens at the score of 10-4 in the National Football League (NFL). The Ravens had lost their last week game, but were lucky to stay well in the course for the title and playoff berth with
the Steelers.
"Yes, we had the ball in our court and we dropped it a little bit," wide receiver Mike Wallace said. "Having home field is a help but it is not everything. We can still go on the road and win."
The Steelers need to win both of their next games and also hope that their rivals the Baltimore Ravens, New York Jets, New England Patriots and Houston Texans lose a game each from their two respective games for a wild card playoff
berth.
In case the Baltimore Ravens win both their games and Steelers lose one, the Ravens will claim the division title while the Steelers will qualify for a wild card berth in the playoff. However, they will need to beat all the aforementioned
teams in the final score on the points table.
The side has been through a number of issues including suspension of its linebacker James Harrison and injury to quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. Roethlisberger played their game against the 49ers but was not upto his potential.
Harrison, who had been suspended over his hit on Cleveland Browns’ quarterback Colt McCoy, is expected for their next game to boost their chances for victory.
They however will be still without their number of key players. They include LaMarr Woodley who is out of the side due to a hamstring injury. There is no final word from the Steelers about his recovery chances before their next
game but he might be able to make it the side.
The side will be definitely without running back Rashard Mendenhall with a rib injury and Mewelde Moore who had suffered a knee injury in their previous game.
It will be the Steelers’ first berth into playoff since 2006 if they are able to survive the chance against their competitors.
