Pittsburgh Steelers’ linebacker James Harrison misses practice with toe injury, not ruled out –NFL
Pittsburgh Steelers' daring linebacker, James Harrison, has missed practice for the second straight time this week but remains among the teams’ hopefuls for their game against the Denver Broncos this weekend, on Saturday, January 07, 2012.
Harrison, who has recently made headlines for his helmet-to-helmet hit on Cleveland Browns’ quarterback, Colt McCoy, did not show up at the team's practice session on Thursday.
The player injured his toe in Steelers' game against Cleveland Browns in the last week of the National Football League (NFL) regular season and has not practiced ever since.
Despite his absence for the second time this week, the team management is optimistic that he will be able play in the game against Broncos.
It is the most crucial time for Steelers and the news regarding his injury does not work well with their hope for a win.
The news about their star quarterback, Ben Roethlisberger, is already uncertain, nursing his ankle injury for almost a month now, and is still not reported to be ready for the upcoming game.
It might be that Harrison’s injury is not as serious as Roethlisberger’s, but the linebacker’s availability is essential for the team to secure their chances for a victory in the wild-card game.
Harrison’s role as a linebacker in the Steelers line-up has grown in importance very recently, especially his tackles making a clear difference in their latest contests.
His rough tackles have proved costly for him in terms of money paid to the league office in fines, but it was due to his performance that the Steelers have made it to playoffs this season.
The player was fined a huge sum of $125,000 as a penalty for his fouls a year earlier in 2010.
Harrison also became the first player to have been suspended for one game during the 2011 regular season for his hit on Colt McCoy under the enhanced players’ safety security measures by the NFL.
McCoy suffered a concussion as a result of the hit and is still unsure about his football career.
Colt McCoy became the Browns’ third player to have been knocked down by Harrison in two years. It was the linebacker’s fifth consecutive foul that resulted in a concussion.
The Steelers may find it difficult to record a win over the Broncos, if James Harrison is ruled out for the game on the weekend due to his injury, but despite all the uncertainty, Harrison said that he would be playing.
