Pittsburgh Steelers lose guard Willie Colon for season with knee injury – NFL News
The number of injury scares for Pittsburgh Steelers continues to rise consistently as with return of quarterback Ben Roethlisberger now some reports confirmed ousting of left guard Willie Colon who has aggravated his previously hurt knee.
A section of media has cited reports from local newspapers claiming that the player was injured in the Steelers game versus the San Diego Chargers on Sunday (Dec. 09) and there is a greater likelihood that the season is well over for him.
The news is not encouraging for the Steelers who are 7-6 in season and fighting for the last wild card sport into the playoffs.
It is certainly going to be difficult for them given their injury list has been extending regularly.
The team has particularly been struggling on the offensive line and at one point had to look back to QB Charlie Batch. With QB Big Ben struggling to maintain his health and fitness, backup QB Leftwich has missed three straight games too. He carries a rib
and shoulder injury and it appears his return in remaining three games of the season might be impossible now.
Now with ousting of Colon, a question about protection of QB Ben has also popped up, and if there is a compromise on his safety the team stands to suffer more in the longer run.
As per some reports, the Steelers plan to bring centre Maurkice Pouncey at Colon’s place to keep protection level for the offence leader intact, while Doug Legursky will probably be placed at the centre position, in place of Pouncey.
Although some commentators do not see the shuffle effectively working for the team, they apparently do not have another alternative. Again, it is an issue of an extended list of the injuries that has hurt the team. While the team will certainly face difficulty
to stay in the fight for the playoffs along with the Cincinnati Bengals and other teams, if somehow they manage to be through to the playoffs, sustaining in the second round will be even more difficult for them.
