Pittsburgh Steelers need to improve offence execution in all areas – NFL News
The Pittsburgh Steelers need to step up their efforts in the red-zone to see their offence performing up to its potential.
Steelers have one of the most formidable and explosive offences in the league. Yet they are completely exposed in the red-zone, rated at bottom of the league’s ranking.
While the team has failed to see its offence performing up to its potential with the poor average of 20.3 per game, its red-zone story is even more depressing.
Ben Roethlisberger, one of the star quarterbacks in the National Football League (NFL), has been sacked 22 times in the red-zone, the second highest in the league. Steelers rank at 18th in their red-zone efficiency, a poor record for a team that has played almost all phases of the league on more than one occasion.
Apparently, commentators are baffled to understand the slackness of the team in particularly this area on the field and it also looks that the team has so far taken the matter lightly.
Whether the coaches are aware of the shortcoming and ever tried to rectify it is a question that many commentators want Steelers’ new offensive coordinator Todd Haley to answer.
Todd has switched the overall offensive scheme to more run-focused, deviating from his predecessor’s approach of passing happy. This has increased the role and pressure on QB Ben.
Haley apart from overall offensive overhaul has not hinted at working on some of the weakest links in the team’s offence. He particularly needs to work on the red-zone weakness.
He is likely to show his cards as far as his approach to a specific offence area is concerned at training camp, due to start later this month.
Nevertheless, Steelers will have to sort this problem out once and for all if they aim to move beyond the regular season this year.
The teams like Baltimore Ravens – the American Football Conference (AFC) North divisional rivals - are coming out on the field better equipped in their offence. This poses a real challenge to Steelers and if they continue to show the dismal form in the red-zone, reaching the playoffs will be difficult.
