Pittsburgh Steelers overcome Cincinnati Bengals in Week 10 game – NFL Recap
A Sunday night thriller ended in Pittsburgh Steelers’ favour as they overpowered Cincinnati Bengals 24-17 putting a stop to their five-game winning streak at Paul Brown Stadium in the week 10 game of the National Football League.
As per the announcement of the authorities, all the tickets of the match were already sold out giving a chance to the Bengals’ home stadium to receive a full house after almost a year. Spread over around 22 acres of land, the 157-feet-high
stadium has a capacity to entertain 65, 535 visitors, who roared with every move their favourite team made.
Steelers were impressive throughout the game as they did not give their opponents any opportunity to get in front. Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger threw a 16-yard pass to wide receiver Jerricho Cotchery, who finished the touchdown
run to open the account for Steelers in the first quarter. Next was running back Rashard Mendenhall, who ran for two yards for a touchdown leading his team to 14-0.
It was Bengals’ turn to reply. Rookie Andy Dalton who had 217 rushing yards for three touchdown-passes in the victory against Titans shined in this game as well. He threw a 36-yard pass to wide receiver A.J. Green who reduced the
deficit to 14-7 near the end of the first quarter. A 43-yard field goal from kicker Mike Nugent in the second quarter brought Bengals further up, taking the score to 14-10.
Just when the Bengals were seemingly gaining the momentum, a 39-yard field goal from Shaun Suisham ceased their progress to increase the Steelers’ lead to 17-10 with 58 seconds to the half time.
Bengals came back sharply in the second half with Dalton coming into the action again. In the opening drive of the third quarter, he sent a one-yard touchdown pass to tight end Jermaine Gresham to level the score 17-17.
Mendenhall proved to be the hero of the match for Steelers when he held a nine-yard run to score his second touchdown of the game advancing his team to 24-17. The defence did the rest for them. No team was able to score in the
fourth quarter and Steelers got their seventh victory of the season at full-time.
Bengals have improved with every game they have played this season, but fell a step short this time taking their number of defeats to three. They have six wins under their belt.
"We went toe-to-toe with them. They have a great defence, but we belong in that league." said Green who left the match after injuring his right knee in the second quarter. His complete participation could have resulted in an otherwise
outcome.
Dalton was also disappointed after the defeat, but he maintained that the team performed well. He said, "I felt like we had a really good grasp on what they were doing. Even with all the movements and shifts that they were doing,
I still thought we had a good feel. They did throw some things at us, but I thought we adjusted well and handled it.”
