Pittsburgh Steelers overpower New York Giants – NFL Recap
New York Giants’ impressive four-game winning streak was ended on Sunday, November 04, at MetLife Stadium by the Pittsburgh Steelers, who defeated the defending champions 24-20 and got their third straight win.
After a slow start to the game, Steelers looked like a proper team in the second half, especially in the final quarter.
They made no scoring moves in the first and third quarters and secured the win after overcoming a 10-point deficit in the final quarter.
Giants showed struggle on offence as well as defence. Quarterback Eli Manning finished with 10 of 24 for 125 yards and also sent an interception.
He said after the game:
“All night we weren’t as sharp as we needed to be; not efficient in the red zone; not very good on third down.  We haven’t been playing our best football offensively in the last few weeks. Our defence has been playing great, but tonight it finally caught
up with us.”
The game started on a slow note as both teams could not score in the first quarter. Steelers got the first scoring move of the game as quarterback Ben Roethlisberger sent a four-yard pass to Emmanuel Sanders for a touchdown.
Giants equalised in the same quarter as running back Andre Brown got a one-yard run to the end zone.
After around a couple of minutes, Giants got another scoring move as Michael Boley ran 70 yards to return a fumble for a touchdown.
Towards the end of the quarter Steelers got a field goal, reducing Giants’ lead to only four points.
After halftime, Steelers struggled to find their momentum, while Giants got a couple of field goals in the third quarter to increase their lead by 10 points.
The final quarter, however, belonged entirely to the Steelers. Early in the quarter, Roethlisberger and Mike Wallace connected for a 51-yard pass that reduced the deficit to three points only.
Later, Isaac Redman got a touchdown as he rushed for one yard to reach the end zone. Redman had a good game as he gained a total of 147 yards on 26 carries.
Roethlisberger finished with 21 of 30 for 216 yards. The Steelers’ quarterback scored two touchdowns while throwing away one interception.
Giants are renowned for staging final-quarter comebacks, but Steelers’ defence did well to completely outclass Giants in the final quarter. Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said after the game:
“We’ve got big time respect for what the Giants are capable of in the fourth so hopefully this is a big step for us in terms of trying to be the football team we desire to be. We’ll enjoy it tonight. Tomorrow we will get back to business and move forward
to next week’s challenges.”
Giants are going to play their next game against Cincinnati Bengals, while Steelers will now take on Kansas City Chiefs.
