Pittsburgh Steelers performance report till Week 7 – NFL Special Part 1
In this edition we will analyse performance given by Pittsburgh Steelers during the first seven weeks of the 2012 season.
Steelers are currently 3-3 after Week 7 and sit at second place in the American Football Conference (AFC) North, behind division leaders Baltimore Ravens.
Week 1: Denver Broncos
Steelers started their season with a 19-31 loss against revamped Denver Broncos. The game marked the return of elite quarterback Peyton Manning after a gap of one year.
Manning ended his first game for Broncos with awesome statistics. He finished with 19 of 26 for 253 yards and two touchdowns.
Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger also got a good start to the season as he completed 22 of 40 for 245 yards along with two touchdowns.
Steelers went to a 19-14 lead in the fourth quarter, but gave away 17 points in the final 10 minutes of the game to lose it.
Week 2: New York Jets
A superb performance from Roethlisberger gave Steelers their first win of the season with a 27-10 victory against New York Jets.
Roethlisberger finished with 24 of 31 passes for 275 yards and scored two stunning touchdowns to take the game away from Jets.
Running back Isaac Redman also got his name on the score sheet with a two-yard run in the final quarter. Kicker Shaun Suisham scored two field goals in the game.
The defence limited Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez’ performance on the field as he completed 10 passes for a mere 138 yards.
Week 3: Oakland Raiders
For the second time this season, Steelers lost the game after getting in a winning position. They were beaten 31-34 by the Oakland Raiders, who scored 13 points in the final quarter.
Raiders were 10 points behind at the end of the third quarter but managed to get a victory, thanks to two field goals by kicker Sebastian Janikowski and a touchdown by quarterback Carson Palmer.
Roethlisberger had an outstanding game as he completed 36 out of 49 passes for 384 yards and scored as many as four touchdowns. However, his performance was not enough for Steelers to clinch a victory.
The quarterback remained the only player for Steelers to give good performance on that day as the rest of the offence looked shell shocked.
