Pittsburgh Steelers playoff push appears affected by injury scares – NFL News
The number of injuries has continued to soar for the Pittsburgh Steelers as the team nears the playoff phase and need all its players fit and in form now than ever before, since there is hardly any position where one or two players have not been hit with
a blow so far this season.
As of the latest, cornerback Ike Taylor is expected to be out of the side for a month at least because of a significant ankle injury. The season might be well over for the CB if the Steelers fail to reach the postseason.
Some sections of media have cited unconfirmed sources claiming that the cornerback suffered the injury during the Steelers’ game versus the Baltimore Ravens, played on past Sunday (Dec. 02). Earlier, it was not considered to be a serious blow but the latest
scans results have shown it is a significant injury and the player will need from three to four weeks to recover from it and return to action.
The timing of the injury is not the ideal given the Steelers are struggling for their playoff push. Thanks to their timely victory over the Ravens, the opportunity for making the second round is still wide open in front of them but their depleted defensive
and offensive lines are no good news for them.
Already the team is without quarterbacks Ben Roethlisberger and Byron Leftwich, safety Polamalu, linebacker James Harrison and now CB Taylor, their absence does not bode well with hopes of the team to make the second round safely.
They expect return of Big Ben this week but injuries of other players might not allow them such an urgent recovery and return.
It is pertinent to note that the Cincinnati Bengals are the closest rivals of the Steelers in the race to playoffs, and the former has been doing rather well lately and could easily edge past them on the points table.
Also, although the Baltimore Ravens have lost their last game, they are still in control of American Football Conference (AFC) North. If they are through to the playoffs in next couple of games, the chance will be hard-earned by the Steelers then, and they
can only hope to cope with the injury problems of so many players.
