Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger fractures right thumb – NFL News
Pittsburgh Steelers’ quarterback Ben Roethlisberger has suffered a fractured right thumb; however, lucky for him, he will find time to nurse his injury and recover timely before their week 12 game.
The Steelers are into week 11 of the current regular season of the American football league, National Football League (NFL), with a bye week. The quarterback will have time to recover before week 12. Their next game is on November
27.
He was injured in their game against Cincinnati Bengals on a throw. Pittsburgh won the game 24-17. However the player said he was not aware of the injury while playing and it was only determined through tests that his thumb had
a fracture.
"It hurt, but (Steelers head trainer) John Norwig did a great job taping it up, making a quick splint out of tape and going with it," Roethlisberger said. "Squeezing the ball is the hardest part, but it's a good thing that I had
a glove on it because that helps gripping it a little bit."
Roethlisberger had played a game with injury earlier as well. He had a similar injury in 2005 but played for Steelers and was instrumental in their win of Super Bowl title.
Pittsburgh will be travelling to Kansas City for their next game on November 27, and it is being expected that the quarterback will be able to recover by then. Even if not there should not be any issue for him because he can play
with a splint. He had done so in the past and did not have any problems.
The Steelers have noted that it was not new for Ben Roethlisberger to play with ‘minor’ injuries. He had played the Steelers’ game against Houston on October 2, which they lost, despite that he was suffering from a sprained foot.
Roethlisberger said it would not be much longer when he would be back to start throwing.
"I won't have to throw for a week or so, (until) next Wednesday or whenever we practice next week," Roethlisberger said. "So, that'll be a good time for it to rest. For me, it'll just be getting used to throwing with a splint on
again and a glove on, which I've done before."
