Pittsburgh Steelers receiver Jerricho Cotchery projected for No. 3 slot – NFL News
Pittsburgh Steelers’ receiver Jerricho Cotchery is fast emerging for the number three slot in the Steelers line-up following his first touchdown with an overall impressive show in the match against the Cincinnati Bengals this Sunday.
It was his first touchdown pass he caught as a Steelers in the current regular season of the National Football League (NFL), the premier American football league.
“I just want to contribute,” Cotchery said “Every guy in this locker room is important. That’s truly how it is. Coach preaches that all the time. I’m sure he preached it long before I got here. When you’re number is called, you’re
expected to make a play.”
Twenty-nine year old Cotchery had spent about seven year his professional career with the New York Jets. He joined the Pittsburgh Steelers in August this year.
He replaced Eammanuel Sanders as a wide receiver with the Steelers who was out due to injury to his foot. So it was an opportunity for Cotchery to perform in the game. However, he was injured in the preseason game and was left
out.
He was lucky again to find the spot at wide receiver place as the regular receiver Sanders had to miss the game to attend his mother funeral. He capitalized on the opportunity and showed his skills to optimum level.
Against the Cincinnati Bengals, he managed to score the Steelers first touchdown on a 16-yard catch. It was also his first touchdown with Steelers, since joining them.
Following the first touchdown in the first quarter, he had another 24 yards catch in the game against Bengals, in the second quarter. However, it was called back due to penalty on tight end Heath Miller.
Courtesy of his play on Sunday, Cotchery is being projected as replacement to With Sanders, who is out indefinitely due the injury. He is likely to take the place at the number 3.
“While I was out, I had the support of my teammates,” Cotchery said. “They kept telling me to keep working and to just take care of myself so I could get back out there on the field and help us down the stretch.”
