Pittsburgh Steelers say RB Rashard Mendenhall, safety Troy Polamalu doubtful – NFL News
The Pittsburgh Steelers have listed running back Rashard Mendenhall as doubtful for their home game against the New York Jets this Sunday.
The player has joined linebacker James Harrison, safety Troy Polamalu and linebacker Stevenson Sylvester, who are uncertain for the Jets game.
As per update of the injured players, Rashard is probably the only member from the list who has practised during the entire week, after recovering from an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury that he had suffered in the closing game versus the Cleveland
Browns last year.
Yet the team as a precautionary measure has decided to wait until very end, before start of the game, to see if he is able to prove himself hundred percent.
The news on ends of other players is not that encouraging, with some of them not taking part in any practice this week at all. James, for example, a day earlier had boasted chances of his comeback for the weekend game but he did not show up for practice
on Friday. He later admitted his decision to not rush back into the side, which can possibly aggravate his knee problem.
He said:
"What it comes down to is that there's no need to hurry up and rush yourself back and end up doing more damage so you have to deal with the injury for the rest of the season, instead of saying that you'll sit out a few weeks and get it back healthy rather
than to go play a game, re-injure it."
The latest remarks are contrary to his earlier boasts cited by some sections of media that he was going to be available for the Jets game.
Now he has backed himself off the recovery talk and sensibly admitted he should not rush back on the field and rather wait for return to full fitness.
Also, the Steelers are not sure about safety Troy, if he is going to make it to the Jets game. Like Harrison, he too missed Friday's practice and has been left questionable for the weekend game. Sylvester is listed as doubtful.
Overall, the situation does not look promising on the recovery status of these players and they may well be out for another week until next weekend.
