Pittsburgh Steelers slap one-game ban on RB Rashard Mendenhall over discipline violation – NFL News
The Pittsburgh Steelers have come rather harsh on running back Rashard Mendenhall on violation of the team’s rules, suspending him for a game over going absent from the team facility after being told not to dress before the game the team lost to the San
Diego Chargers on past Sunday (Dec. 09).
It is a new twist to the RB’s career this season after he has recently been dropped because of sluggish form. Although the player is yet to clarify his position on the disciplinary action taken by the team, he is going to miss another game next week.
The player earlier had been unlucky to have suffered some consecutive injury scares that cost him a few games earlier at the start of the season. The torn anterior cruciate ligament was the serious one of the all, which has also taken a toll on the player’s
fitness overall.
Overall, the Steelers are going through one of the worst times of the league as far as the number of injuries to the player’s concerned. Their offensive line is particularly depleted, as a number of other players including quarterback Ben Roethlisberger
has suffered some serious blow to their health and fitness.
Mendenhall has recently returned to full fitness but his form is still an issue. Repeated fumbles are the major problem confronting him on the field, and this was one of the reasons that the team decided to drop him in the Chargers game.
The team told the player not to dress in the game and he took the opportunity and went missing from the locker room. None of the concerned quarters have pinpointed about whereabouts of the player after he slipped out of the locker room.
Meanwhile, the team has signed RB Baron Batch off their practice squad on unknown contractual terms. The team is desperate to salvage their position the American Football Conference (AFC) North division to keep themselves intact on the course to the playoffs,
and the issues like injuries and violation of discipline are certainly a distraction for the players.
