Pittsburgh Steelers still keen to see QB Big Ben, Byron Leftwich back at earliest – NFL News
The Pittsburgh Steelers surprised everyone by pulling off a tight-margin win over the Baltimore Ravens without their key offence leader quarterback Ben Roethlisberger in the side on Sunday (Dec. 02), but this is not something the team weighs for a longer
run, they want Big Ben back at earliest possible even though his recovery status from rib and should injuries is still as much uncertain as of QB Byron Leftwich, who carries the same injuries.
Ben suffered a sprained shoulder and dislocated rib in previous game against the Ravens and is yet on the sideline nursing his injuries. He had hit the field for some practice and training last week but clearly was uncomfortable while throwing football.
In spite of coach Mike Tomlin’s desperation the player could not make the Ravens game on the weekend.
Now the team has to confirm the official status of Ben’s recovery and as long as they do not come with a clarifying version, his current status stays as uncertain even for the next game. The Steelers with a win over the Ravens have opened up the playoff
opportunity for themselves once again. Amid the situation any longer absence of Ben from the squad can be detrimental to their second round prospects.
The situation might be clearer this Wednesday if the player is able to show up for mid-week practice session and how he progresses during the day-long workout activity. The main problem for him is his rib. It causes trouble in free movement of the arm and
shoulder, although shoulder injury is not a hurdle in the way.
As per doctors’ opinion, Ben needed at least three weeks, but it was a pure estimated timeframe, not based on any historical evident, because no one had suffered the injury like this previously. So, there can be some difference between his anticipated timeline
for return to action and actual return. All sides are nevertheless hopeful for Ben’s comeback this week.
It is pertinent to mention that a similar situation is faced by QB Byron Leftwich who is suffering from the same issues.
