Pittsburgh Steelers unsure about RBs Jonathan Dwyer, Rashard Mendenhall vs New York Giants – NFL News
The Pittsburgh Steelers are in dire as far as availability of their key rusher is concerned with a number of players questionable for their next game versus the reigning Super Bowl champions the New York Giants this Sunday (Nov. 04).
As per the available information, the first player to have been left doubtful is running back Jonathan Dwyer with a right guard strain. He was a miss at training session on Friday and the team apparently being concern about the possibility of aggravating
his injury has left the decision to take him onboard until very last moments before the game.
Other player down is RB Rashard Mendenhall. He has torn right Achilles tendon and did not join the squad for practice on Friday. Now, the team has confirmed him doubtful for the upcoming game.
While the team has not put Isaac Redman on the injury list, he too has sore ankles, but will play against the Giants. He sounded to be rather confident ruling out the possibility of the team suffering at all.
He said:
"The good thing is that we've got three good running backs, so when somebody goes down we always have somebody else ready to go. It's a shame that we all can't get healthy at the same time, but that's what makes it crucial that we have so much depth."
The injuries nevertheless do not bode well with the team’s hopes of doing better in rest of the season than what they have already achieved. The team so far is unable to get together as a unit, and the injuries are likely to further disintegrate them, especially
on the offensive line.
Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is expected to carry an increased burden on his shoulders but remains prone to be affected due to absence of running backs.
Interestingly, coach Mike Tomlin did not have much to say, particularly how he is going about covering up for the players’ absence. The offence performance is crucial for the team’s victory chances, as beating the current champions in front of their home-crowd
will be a daunting task for the team.
