Pittsburgh Steelers upbeat about recovery of guard David DeCastro from knee surgery – NFL News
The Pittsburgh Steelers are upbeat about the progress that guard David DeCastro has made in the recovery from a surgically repaired knee after hurting it in a preseason game versus the Buffalo Bills on August 25 this year.
David himself is also optimistic about his speedy recovery from the injury, possibly staging a comeback in the latter part of this season.
The Steelers have placed him on the injured reserve (IR) list, and as per changed rules of the IR by the National Football League (NFL), the player can come back sometime in the second half of the season provided the team does not name any other injured
player against the temporary replacement on the 53-man roster.
DeCastro has been allowed for workout on a stationary bike and very recently has started working without a brace around the knee, which indicates the signs of efficient recovery.
He said:
"I don't have any pain, so I'm just working hard to try to get back."
His teammate guard Willie Colon said of his situation:
"It's tough for him to lose his first year in the NFL. He was a projected starter coming out, so it's been tough. Obviously, to go down like that, it has to be disappointing. But he's a head-strong kid. He knows what it takes to get back on the horse as
soon as possible."
Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger earlier in the preseason had spoken high of the guard’s talent but unfortunately has failed to receive any protection from him while the player being out with the injury scare.
DeCastro’s return to action will nevertheless help Ben and also the team to benefit from his skills. He is a fine and talented player in the younger crop of the Steelers and with some experience of Ben and other players on the offensive line, he can add
to his experience.
It was rather unfortunate, as noted by a majority game punters, that the player suffered an injury blow at the outset of his professional career. Still, they think he has great future ahead. Since he is young, has energy and strength he can thrive in the
league.
