Also on the sidenote: What is with most of the fans now that Malone left?

As it goes,Before he signed with Tampa, people were loving him and calling him one of the best underrated player in the league...now that he signed with Tampa all I see on TSN comments or some other places that he is a Overrated piece of ****.They were also saying that Malone wouldn't sign with Tampa and it was a waste of time trading for the rights.lol

Anyways to my point,is Pittsburgh trying to go for a diffrent approach or are they just being unlucky?

  1. They need to get rid of some players so they have enough money to keep the players that are vital to success. In a way they are taking a different approach.

  2. they don't have money to overpay players don't forget for everyone they lose they will get more players to take their place and they should be able to get good deals on free agents looking to compete for the cup and don't forget malkin and crosby can make anyone look good malone did nothing until he played with malkin

  3. Did everyone not see this coming?  Honestly, it got here a year before I expected it, but I am not surprised.  No, they don't like losing players but in the salary cap based NHL this is what happens when you get top draft picks in consecutive years.  Really, they don't have much of a choice.

  4. We're just unlucky............ ='(

Lol, jk anyways.......I really don't think we are as in bad of shape as people like to pretend. (HATERS!) We still have Crosby, Malkin, Fleury, Whitney, Letang, Gonchar.....need I go on?

I still believe Hossa will resign with us, but that's me. I have too much faith. I'll die without Marian. That's why my name will always be Mrs C(an't live without Marian Hossa) nyuk nyuk nyuk. Kidding............

I don't mind much that Bugsy Malone left us. We can replace him. Anywho......I don't think he was as good as people like to say. He had Malkin for his center....who wouldn't be that good?

Plus, Tampa over paid on him IMO.

And Brooks hasn't decided on free agency yet. We still have a few hours to sign him. I hear the Pens offered him a revised contract. Hopefully he accepts it and makes Kate's day. Mhmm.

  5. I think clearing players is so they'll have space to resign Hossa

However for Malone it's not that he's overated it's TB overpaid for him

  6. Unlucky, maybe but this is their own doing for the most part.  The allowed themselves to get in a situation where all their players became UFA's.

The probably could have retained some and cheaper with contract extensions last fall.  Waiting till a player is about to go UFA before negotiating is a gamble.

They made the problem worse by trading away guys under contract for next year ( Christenson and Armstrong) for guys who would be UFA's this summer.  Hossa and Dupuis.

Other UFAs that could go elsewhere this summer.. Hossa , Dupuis , Beech , Laraque, Ruttu, Orpik, Hall, Conklin

The bleeding might not be over yet.  They only have 13 players under contract for next year. There are also few RFA's that the can match offers on.  most guys who's contract ended became UFA.

  7. well no we hate the fact that people who should stay, like malone (born in raised in Pittsburgh) and others who are really good and like it here, but if they are going to leave its great that we are getting 4th round draft picks and very compitent (spelling?) replacements. so in a way it could be a good thing.

  8. They can't sign everyone because of the salary cap. I'm sure they would like to keep their team the same but it just isn't possible. Malone got the money, but is he worth it? He doesn't even have 170 career pts. He is coming off his best year. You just have to wait to see if he could put up those numbers on a different team. His Stanley Cup performance was just average at best. He has a great heart and I hate to see him go, but in reality I don't think he's worth as much as he got. He still has a lot to prove in the NHL. I wish him well!!

  9. No, we hate losing players.

I am angry with Malone, he said before he loves Pittsburgh,

he also told us that he would want to stay with the Pens.

But when it comes down to money that all changes.

I think they are getting unlucky..

  10. Malone was a good player and he did the dirty work for the Malkin line.  That earned him a bump to around 3.5 million a year (which he deserved).  Pittsburgh offered him that (3.5 million for 3 years after he said he would give them a hometown discount).  Malone turned that contract down after he saw that the market was willing to give him 5 million for 5 years.  Malone for 3 or 3.5 is a nice signing fore Malones value but for 5 million Malone's value is overated.   Also his stats were inflated by playing with Malkin and on the 1st PP unit by standing infront of the net.

Pittsburghs approach is to not overpay for anyone and find good value signings (sykora last year)
