Piya Swangarunporn leads in Singha Teddy Auto Sale Championship of Thai PGA Tour
The third round of the Thai Professional Golfer’s Association Tour Singha Teddy Auto Sale Championship concluded today at the beautiful Lamlukka Golf and Country Club, Bangkok. Local hero, Piya Swangarunporn regained form today in the third round to post
his name on top of the leader board. He carded a round of four-under par, 67. The Thai leads the four day championship by a mere margin of one shot over the experienced Asian Tour member Chapchai Nirat, who has a total three day aggregate score of 12-under
par, 201.
Swangarunporn, who had a fantastic first round score of eight-under par, 63 and was among the leaders on the first day, made a comeback and improved his position on the board. He carded a round of four-under par which was enough for him to move him back
in the lead. The 27-year-old had seven birdies and also lost three strokes on hole numbers 2, 8 and 15. Piya has also been playing on the Asian Tour, as well as the local tour, but with not much success. The Thai was looking for his maiden victory in his homeland
and is confident to end his drought.
The local hero Nirat is just one stroke behind his compatriot, as he had a moderate round of three-under par, 68 and is currently placed at the second spot. Nirat had six birdies on his card followed by three bogeys, as a few of his tee shots were wayward
due to which he had drop shots on three holes. Still he looked confident in his third round and is all geared up for the final day. The 27-year-old is hoping that he will successfully curb the challenge of his opponent to lift the championship trophy along
with the winner’s cheque.
There is a two-way tie for the third spot, as first round leader Nay Bala Win Myint of Myanmar is placed with Atiwit Janewattananond of the host country. They both had a similar three round score of ten-under par, 203 and have a deficit of just two strokes
over the leader.
Atiwit improved his position after the third round by carding a superb round of six-under par, 65. He had seven birdies during the day and a lone bogey came on the par-4, 17th where he three putted on the green. The youngster was very content
with his round and is hopeful that he will continue his exquisite touch on the final day tomorrow to win the championship.
The most experienced player on the field, Prom Meesawat, who is also an Asian Tour winner failed to take charge on the leader board on the third day. He had three birdies and four birdies on his card, as misery continued throughout the day as he double-bogeyed
the tough par-3, 16th where his iron shot landed way off the green in rough. Meesawat shares the seventh and is five shots behind the leader.
The final day of the tournament will start tomorrow with the top players vying for the top honour. It is expected that Nirat will take on the leader to lift the trophy.
