Piyush Chawla’s disappointment for missing a ton in the ongoing http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kumar-Shri-Ranjitsinhji-c71870 Trophy match against Vidarbha on Sunday was made up for by the news of his selection in the Indian team for the fourth and final Test against England, starting in Nagpur on Thursday, December 13, 2012.
The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Markasakkam-Sandeep-c74795 Patil-led selection panel in Kolkata on Sunday.
The left-armer, who played an impressive knock of 85 runs to help his state side post a mammoth first innings total of 548 for 8 (declared), looked visibly cheerful at the end of the day because of earning a recall into the Test side after a gap of four years.
“I’m delighted with the news. Although I am regular member of the Indian ODI and Twenty20 sides, somehow I could not get chance to bowl in Test cricket,” said the left-arm leg-spinner while speaking to media reporters at the end of the third day of their Ranji Trophy fixture against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Vidarbha-c860.
“I’m really happy that selectors acknowledged my efforts in the domestic circuit. I’m looking forward to bowl in the Nagpur Test," added an upbeat Chawla.
The diminutive leg-spinner made his Test debut against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 at Kanpur. However, he has been continuously overlooked for a Test selection since then, he is a regular member of limited overs squads though.
Admitting that he was hopeful of a Test comeback due to his good show in domestic cricket, Chawla claimed that he was an improved bowler since he last played a Test for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 in April 2008.
“I waited patiently for a spot in the Indian team,” said the left-arm leg-spinner who replaces experienced yet struggling off-spinner http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Harbhajan-Singh-c61453 in the Nagpur Test squad.
“I learnt a lot in the last four years. I made lot of changes in my bowling by playing in the domestic matches. As a leggie, I always look to attack the batsmen and take wickets. I hope to do it in Test matches too,” he added further.
