Question:

Pizza stone with MOLD ????

I bought a pizza stone at a rummage sale because I had always heard that they were great to make pizza on.

Well, when I got it home & really looked at it... i'm not sure if the dark discoloration is just that... or mold.

What is the best way to clean this ? Should I use an agressive wire scrubber, like you use to clean a grill ?

I am open to suggestions. If it matters, the brand on it is Home & Garden.

  1. Bleach kills mold.

  2. u can wash it by hand just rinse it really well and ya scrub brush

  3. rubbing alchol and then clean it really good with soap and water

  4. put bleach on it and let it soak and then get really hot water make it soapy and let the dish soak for ages

  5. As it is used, a pizza stone will usually discolor because of burned-on cheese and other ingredients (pizzas are inherently messy).  The discoloration won't hurt you at all.  But, to ease your mind, do the following.  Wash the stone with hot water and dish washing soap.  Rinse very, very thoroughly (remember, a pizza stone is porous).  Put the stone on the lowest level of your oven and heat to 500 degree F for about 20 minutes.  Turn the oven off and let it cool down naturally.  You will then have a perfectly clean (but perhaps stained), safe pizza stone.

    Enjoy!

  6. Stones should be discolored from use.  Clean it well and put it in a hot oven before you use it.  Mine is almost black from all the use.

Leave it in the oven when you turn the oven on, otherwise it will crack.  Bring it up to 450* for 15 min and it should kill anything on it.  Mine cracked at 500*.

    Happy Pizza!
